Pregnancy Q & A

What pregnancy services are available?

The experienced OB/GYN team offers comprehensive care for all phases of your pregnancy, starting with your initial confirmation test. The team takes a proactive approach to your pregnancy care and customizes a treatment plan that meets your needs.

Pregnancy services include:

  • Pregnancy tests
  • Prenatal care
  • Ultrasounds
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Blood glucose testing

The team also provides specialized services for high-risk pregnancies if you have an existing health condition or you have a history of complications during a previous pregnancy or delivery.

Your pregnancy is also considered high risk if you’re expecting multiples, like twins or triplets.

When should I schedule a prenatal exam?

You can schedule a prenatal exam with the team as soon as you think you’re pregnant. The staff offers in-office testing to confirm your pregnancy and creates a schedule for your prenatal visits throughout your pregnancy.

Typically, you can expect to have a prenatal exam once a month during your first 28 weeks, once every two weeks from weeks 29-36, and then every week until you go into labor.

For a high-risk pregnancy, your provider may want to see you more often to monitor your condition and the development of your baby.

What can I expect during a prenatal visit?

During your initial visit, your provider takes time to review your personal and family medical history and talk about any issues you had with previous pregnancies. If you’re experiencing any symptoms, your practitioner can evaluate them and answer your questions.

As part of your routine care, your provider may do a pelvic exam to assess the health of your reproductive system. At the beginning and partway through your pregnancy, they may have you undergo an in-office ultrasound to help determine your due date, monitor your baby’s heartbeat, and assess the baby’s growth and development.

You may need blood work at some visits, and your provider may request blood glucose testing in the second trimester to check for gestational diabetes.

If you have a high-risk pregnancy, your provider may need to request additional diagnostic testing to identify potential complications as early as possible.

Your provider also works with you on a labor and delivery plan and can refer you for childbirth classes to help you prepare for your baby’s arrival day.
